Hugh Thomas's Story
More Life...
Spring 2009
Much has happened to me and for me since I last posted here. I am still working in the recruiting business in Owatonna, Minnesota. This is a wonderful town and I have lived here for 23 years. Wow! Hard to believe that its been that long
Life
August/September 2008
Well here it is more than half way through with 2008 already. It's hard to believe that I am sitting here watching pre-season football already...
As for life in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" it has been a summer filled with days on the lake and days on the links. I brushed up on my golf game this year and can now say that I am pretty decent. Playing with about a 10 handicap is not to shabby for this NJ boy! The kids, wife and I purchased a boat this year so it has been a summer of learning the ins, and outs of getting it from lake to lake. I still don't know much about fishing since I did most of my fishing in the Atlantic Ocean when I was a kid! But it has been fun trying to learn.
Cresse, my 14 year old son, is now going into 9th grade and is still really interested in sports, thank goodness... (somewhat of a far cry from when I was a kid) He started football practice this week and is probably going to play either a safety position or linebacker. I keep trying to talk him into playing offense but he wants to play defense.
Kelly, my 17 year old daughter is going to be a senior this year. Very hard for me to believe that I am so old that I have a daughter in her last year of high school. Hey, that's what this site is all about isn't it? Kelly has had a summer job this year as a hostess at a local restaurant and really seems to like it, because as she say's "It's really, really, easy dad!" I think that after high school she is going to go to cosmetology school...Expand for more
but that is up in the air right now! I'm just hoping that she has a great senior year, and stays out of trouble...
As for the wife (Stephanie) and myself we are doing well. Trying to consistently parent the kids and make sure that we keep them as safe as possible. But the influences are out there these days. Lots of drugs, (and I'm not talking about the drugs we were into when we were kids) and partying going on here in town. Owatonna is a good town though. Our population is about 28,000 and growing. We have a decent school system, and you don't necessarily have to lock your doors at night. We have a black lab who is a great watch dog, and another little pup, (Benji) which is part Maltise, part toy poodle. Benji is the friendliest dog that ever lived and I love to pet him in the morning before work, just to chill out before the beginning of the day.
Well there you have some of whats going on here in Southern Minnesota. I will add more soon....
College
1992-1996
Mankato State University
Mankato MN
BS Degree in Mass Communication
BA Degree in Theater Arts
My college days were all work since I had Kelly my 2 year old daughter at home and then Cresse was born in 1994. It was all business but I made some really cool friends and have memories that I will never forget. Especially in the Theater Arts Dept.
Military
In 1982 I joined the US Army. I went through boot camp and AIT at Fort Benning GA. It was definitely a tough road as I was only 19 years old and didn't have a lot of common sense. But I made it through the tough times. After a short leave I spent close to the next 2 years overseas in Kitzigen Germany. Kitzigen is about 1 hr. by train south of Frankfurt. While I was there we did alot of training on the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
